Caring for your hat

At Estribos every hat is made to be worn, loved, and last for years – and with a little care, it truly will.
Here’s a simple guide to keeping your hat looking its best, whatever the material:

Waxed Leather Hats

Our waxed leathers can be treated with conditioners or clear beeswax polish – always apply to a dry cloth first, then gently wipe over the brim and crown. This will keep the leather waterproof and significantly extend its lifespan. Always remember to dry away from any unnatural heat sources.

Nubuck Suede Hats

Our nubuck should not be conditioned, but can be treated with Scotch-guard or a standard suede spray. We recommend maintaining the suede once or twice a year, or as needed. A brush will remove dirt and water marks. Always allow to dry away from any unnatural heat sources.

Felt Hats

Our fur felt require no conditioning or spraying. Handmade from 100% natural fibres, they’re built to handle some rain – just allow them to dry naturally at room temperature. A quick brush removes dust or dirt, making them wonderfully easy to maintain

Summer Hats

It goes without saying, but summer hats are not waterproof so please avoid wearing in any rain! A light sponge on any marks will easily lift any dirt.

Top Tips:

  • For best results, store your hat upside down to help maintain the shape of the brim: how you leave it is the shape it will mould to.
  • If it feels snug after rain, pop it over your knee (yes, really!) and give it a gentle tug to open it back up.
  • Any marks that won’t budge? Please get in touch – we’ll be more than happy to offer advice and help where we can.
