Our family’s journey in Argentina began in 1863, when we left the Falkland Islands to farm sheep on the windswept plains of Patagonia, Southern Argentina. There, we forged a deep connection to the land, its culture, and traditions. Today, we honour that heritage with a collection of premium hand crafted treasures that celebrate Argentine craftsmanship and our enduring roots.

From our traditional leather polo belts to our luxurious carpincho leather designs, and our range of all-weather hats and accessories, our mission is to share the true spirit of Argentine culture with the world.

Each piece is meticulously handcrafted in Argentina, preserving the heritage, artistry, and craftsmanship that have been passed down through generations.

Quality and Tradition

At Estribos we value tradition and quality above all else. With over 130 years of experience in hat-making and over 30 years in leatherworking, we take great pride in handcrafting every product on our own premises in Buenos Aires. This ensures that only the finest materials are used and that every item meets our rigorous quality standards.

The name Estribos, which means “stirrups” in Spanish, reflects our deep-rooted connection to Argentine Gaucho culture as well as the wider equestrian world and the respect we have for high-quality leatherwork.

A Family Legacy

In 2004, the Smith family moved to England to expand the Estribos brand, bringing a little piece of Argentina with us. Since then, we’ve been honoured to showcase our products at iconic events across the UK such as the Burghley Horse Trials, Cowdray Park Polo Club, and Cheltenham Races. We take great joy in seeing our products loved and cherished by customers, many of whom have been using them for decades.

As a family-run business, we take pride in being personally involved in every aspect of Estribos and the creation of our products. Today, Marcus, the founder, and his daughter Sophie, the owners, manage all business operations to ensure that Estribos consistently upholds our high standards of craftsmanship and quality. When you get in touch, it will be us you speak with. When you visit our ‘Corner of Argentina’, it will be us serving you. And when you design your own custom creation online, it will be us who carefully check it before sending it out.

Custom Creations Just for You

We believe every product should be as unique as the person who owns it. That philosophy led us to develop our custom belt design service, culminating in the launch of the world’s first online custom polo belt design tool in 2017.

This innovative platform gives our customers the freedom to create their own bespoke polo belt – choosing the leather, guarda-pampa pattern, buckle, and even adding personalised initials. Perfect for clubs, teams, or individuals, whether you prefer something traditional or a truly unique design, we’re here to bring your vision to life.

Building on this success, we expanded in 2020 to include custom-designed polo dog collars and leads, and with our 2025 website relaunch, we introduced a complete redesign and added two new custom items: keyrings and browbands.
